Summary Introduction

To identify: The tarsals and metatarsals.

Concept introduction: The tarsals are the bones of the ankle. There are seven tarsal bones that articulate and form the tarsus. There are five bones of the metatarsals of the legs and are similarly arranged like the metatarsals of the hands. The tarsal bones are located at the lower end of the tibia and the fibula. They form the ankle joint and take part in the formation of the foot, along with the metatarsals and phalanges.
