The atomic number of chlorine is 17 .

Thus, the number of valence electrons of chlorine is 7 .

The atomic number of hydrogen is 1 .

Therefore, the electronic configuration of hydrogen is 1s1 .

Thus, the number of valence electrons of hydrogen is 1 .

Thus, the total number of valence electrons of HClO is,

1+7+6=14
