A eutectic alloy of two metals contains the specific percentage of each metal that gives the lowest possible melting temperature for any combination of those two metals. Eutectic alloys are often used for soldering electronic components to minimize the possibility of thermal damage. In the past, the most common eutectic alloy used in this application has been 63% Sn, 37% Pb, with a melting temperature of about 361 degrees Fahrenheit [°F], To reduce lead pollution in the environment, many other alloys have been tried, including those in the table below. Complete the following table:
Eutectic Temperature | |||||
Compound | [°F] | [°C] | [K] | [°R] | |
(a) | 91% Sn, 9% Zn | 472 | |||
(b) | 96.5% Sn, 3.5% Ag | 890 |

Consider the well-insulated, rigid tank having a volume of 10 [ft']. Previously, it contained saturated water vapor at 212°F at state 1. The water was rapidly stirred until the pressure was 20 [lbfin'). In class we showed that the temperature at state 2 was 445°F and the work done during this process was -31.3 (Btu]. Now, if insulation were removed from the tank, and the water is cooled at constant volume from T2 = 445°F to T3= 300°F without stirring the water, determine: a) The pressure at the state 3 in [Ibfin*), and b) The heat transfer during the process in [Btu).arrow_forwardPlease help, Should sure of final answer. A surface heat flux of q."-exp(-x/25) [W/m²] is applied on the tube. Chemical reactions inside the oil cause volumetric heat generation at the rate of ġ = 1000 [W/m³]. Before entering the tube, the oil has a uniform temperature of 25 °C and a flow rate of 0.025 kg/s, and its hydrodynamic boundary layer has been fully developed. (a) Determine the type of flow (laminar or turbulent) inside the tube. (b) Determine the location where the thermal boundary layer is fully developed. (c) Perform the energy analysis of the fluid, and derive the temperature equation (in terms of dTm and dx) for the oil (Do NOT need to solve it).
