Chapter 7.3, Problem 13CP
Program Plan Intro
List slicing:
- • Slicing is a concept of selecting a range of elements from a list.
- • In Python, an expression that selects a subsection of a list is known as a slice.
- • A slice is a span of elements that are taken from a list.
- • Normally, the slice expression has a start index and an end index for slicing.
- • Negative integers can also be used as indexes in the slicing expressions. The negative indexes refer to location relative to the end of the list.
Syntax:
In Python, the list slice statement with a negative index can be expressed as either.
listname[negativeIndex:]
or
listname[:negativeIndex]
Explanation:
In the list slice syntax,
- • As the “start” index or the “end” index is the negative index, Python adds this negative index with the length of the list to get the start or end reference position for slicing.
