Interpretation : The molecular formula for the given mass and percent of the elements should be calculated.
Concept Introduction : For any compound the empirical formula represents the lowest whole number ratio of atoms in a compound.
Molecular formula = small integer x empirical formula
Grams or moles of each element can be used to calculate the empirical formula of compound.
The following steps should be followed:
1. Calculate the number of moles for each element.
2. Divide by smallest number of moles.
3. Write the empirical formula with the help of whole number of step-2.
4. Calculate the integer value with the help of molar mass
5. Write the molecular formula.
