Explanation The glenohumeral joint is the most freely movable joint in the human body and the muscles associated with it help in the movement of the shoulder. It contributes in flexion, extension, abduction, adduction, medial and lateral rotation of the humerus. It consists of rotator cuff muscles that surround the joint and they stabilize the shoulder along with tendons. The subscapularis, supraspinatus, infraspinatus, and teres minor muscles are the four muscles that are grouped as rotator cuff muscles. These muscles create a balanced force and act as dynamic stabilizers of the head of the humerus during range of motion (ROM). In a normal positioned shoulder, the rotator cuff muscles stabilize the anterior-posterior translation of humeral head.
