Chapter 7, Problem 10C
A defibrillator sends approximately 0.1 C of charge through a patient’s chest in about 2 ms. The average voltage during the discharge is approximately 3,000 V Compute the average current that flows, the average power output, and the total energy consumed (Note: Only a small portion of this current actually flows through the heart in a typical fibrillating procedure. Much of the charge is diffused throughout the patient’s thoracic cavity).

The internal energy of the water in a container is increased by 440 kJ by means of an electric heater. Since the electric current passing through the heater is 5 Amperes and the operating time of the heater is 13 minutes and 20 seconds, how many volts is the voltage applied to the heater?
In the electric flow, it is found that the resistance (measured in the units called ohms) offered by a fixed length of wire of a given material varies inversely as the square of the diameter of the wire. If a wire 0.01 in. In diameter has a resistance of 0.332 ohms, what is the resistance of a wire of the same length and material with diameter 0.0260?
Cardiac defibrillators must be able to supply a high voltage very quickly, and so use capacitors. If a certain defibrillator has a 154 µF capacitor charges to 2,697 V. If this electrical charge is released into the patient in a time of 4.85 milliseconds, what is the (average) power, in watts?
