The Hill of Tara is located in south-central Meath, not far from Dublin, Ireland. Tara is of great cultural and archaeological importance, since it is by legend the seat of the ancient high kings of Ireland. For more information, see Tara: An Archaeological Survey, by Conor Newman, Royal Irish Academy, Dublin.
Magnetic surveying is one technique used by archaeologists to determine anomalies arising from variations in magnetic susceptibility. Unusual changes in magnetic susceptibility might (or might not) indicate an important archaeological discovery. Let x be a random variable that represents a magnetic susceptibility (MS) reading for a randomly chosen site on the Hill of Tara. A random sample of 120 sites gave the readings shown in the table below.

- Question 2. In a given university, some scholarships were offered to students. This depends on the GPA the student gets and having his/her application submitted on time. 40.1% of the students applying have the required GPA. Given that the student has the required GPA, 77.56% of the students received a scholarship. And given that the student doesn't have the required GPA, 6.51% of them received a scholarship. Knowing that a student got a scholarship and have the required GPA, 96.46% of them had applied before the due date. On the other hand, the probability that the student submitted his application on time knowing that he didn't have the required GPA and he didn't get a scholarship was 1.79%. Given that the student didn't get a scholarship and had the required GPA, 2.22% of the applications were submitted on time. Of all applications, 3.4% of the applications were submitted on time, the student didn't have the required GPA and the student got a scholarship.arrow_forwardQUESTION 7 Match each measure of center with its definition. v mean A. the middle value of a dataset (or the sum of the middle two numbers, divided by 2) when the values are in order from least to v median greatest v mode B. found by adding all the values in the dataset together, and then dividing by how many numbers there are C. the value(s) that repeats most often in a datasetarrow_forwardIn a survey, residents of Springfield and Shelbyville were asked to rate The Itchy and Scratchy Show. - Question 7 The relationship between study hours and exam score was estimated as below in a linear format. Exam score = 6.24 * Study hours + 54.72 (The p-value for the coefficient of Study hours is 0.04.) Based on this equation, what is the expected exam score of a student, when she studied for 5 hours for the exam? A.) 100 B.) 23.52 C.) 85.92 D.) 92.16arrow_forwardQuestions 12 to 20 are based on the following problem: Loftus and Palmer study (1974) demonstrated the influence of language on eyewitness memory. Participants watched a film of a car accident and were asked questions about what they saw. One group was asked “About how fast the cars were going when they smashed into each other?” Another group was asked the same question, except the verb was changed to “hit” instead of “smashed into”. The ‘smasher into” group reported significantly higher estimates of speed than the hit group. Suppose a researcher repeats this study with two samples of college students and obtains the following results: Estimated Speed Smashed into hit n = 16 n = 16 M = 40 M = 34 SS = 510 SS = 414 Use a one-tailed test with α = .01. based on this question Use the data to make a 99% confidence interval estimate of the mean difference in estimate speed between the “smashed into” group and the “hit” group The lower limit of the…arrow_forwardQUESTIONS 11-15. - Question 1 Select one answer. 10 points Weight of a rock: In a geology course, students are learning to use a balance scale to accurately weigh rocks. One student plans to weigh a rock 20 times and then calculate the average of the 20 measurements to estimate her rock's true weight. A second student plans to weigh a rock 5 times and calculate the average of the 5 measurements to estimate his rock's true weight. Let’s say that the student who collected 20 weight measurements came up with a mean weight of 27.1 g with a standard deviation of 2.3 grams. The critical T-value for a 95% (one-sample) confidence interval with df = 19 is 2.09. Which of the following is the resulting 95% confidence interval? (25.0, 29.2) (26.0, 28.2) (26.6, 27.6)arrow_forwardQuestion 22 A parameter is O A. A value that can be calculated from the sample. B. A value that can be calculated only if we get data from an entire population. OC. A value associated with a characteristic of a population. OD. A value associated with a characteristic of a sample.arrow_forwardQuestion number 8 Devon is hired by the city to create a scale mural of a local park. Devon is exactly 6 feet tall but in the mural, he is 4.5 feet tall. If the tree in the park is 30 feet tall, how tall should the tree be in the mural? The tree will be | feet tall in the mural. - A pedestal is 5.43 feet tall, and a statue is placed on top of it. A spotlight on the floor lights up the pedestal and statue. [a] The angle of elevation from the spotlight to the bottom of the statue is 57 degrees , and the angle of depression from the top of the statue to the spotlight is 71 degrees .How tall is the statue ?Your final answer must be an exact value (ie. do not use your calculator).Your final answer may involve fractions, radicals, angles and/or trigonometric functions and the decimal number given in the problem. HINT: You will need to calculate another quantity first. [b]Using your calculator, round the answer to [a] to 2 decimal places. [c] The pedestal is replaced with a pedestal of a different height, with the same statue placed on top of it.The spotlight is moved and tilted so that the angle of elevation from the spotlight to the bottom of the statue is now 41 degrees , and the angle of depression from the top of the statue to the spotlight is now 64 degrees…arrow_forwardQUESTION 1: variation The researcher wants to record the typical wingspan of the M. galathea in the UK, so that they can compare it to previously studied European populations.
