Chapter 6, Problem 61SP
Water flows from a reservoir at the rate of 3000 kg/min, to a turbine 120 m below. If the efficiency of the turbine is 80 percent, compute the power output of the turbine. Neglect friction in the pipe and the small KE of the water leaving the turbine. Don’t forget that it’s only 80 percent efficient.

The water behind Hoover Dam in Nevada is 206 m higher than the Colorado River below it. At what rate must water pass through the hydraulic turbines of this dam to produce 100 MW of power if the turbines are 100 percent efficient?
A hydro electric power station takes its water from a lake
whose water level is 50m above the turbine. Assuming an
overall efficiency of 40%, calculate the mass of water
which must flow through the turbine each second to
produce power output of 1MW.
(g=10 m s-²).
A hydraulic turbine has 85 m of elevation difference available at a flow rate of 0.25 m3/s, and its overall turbine– generator efficiency is 91 percent. Determine the electric power output of this turbine.
