Chapter 6, Problem 20P

A series RL circuit is subjected to a sinusoidal voltage of frequency 120 π rad / s as shown in Fig. P620. The current i ( t ) = 10 cos ( 120 π t ) A is flowing through the circuit. The voltage across the resistor and inductor are given by ν R ( t ) = 10 cos ( 120 π t ) and ν R ( t ) = 120 cos ( 120 π t + π 2 ) volts. where t is in seconds.

Chapter 6, Problem 20P, A series RL circuit is subjected to a sinusoidal voltage of frequency 120rad/s as shown in Fig.

(a) Write down the amplitude, frequency (in Hz), period (in seconds), phase shift (in degrees), and time shift (in seconds) of the voltage ν L ( t ) .

(b) Plot one cycle of the voltage ν L ( t ) , and indicate the earliest time after t = 0 when the voltage is maximum.

(c) The total voltage across the circuit is given by ν ( t ) = ν R ( t ) + ν L ( t ) .Write ν ( t ) in the form ν ( t ) = M cos ( 120 π t + θ ) , in other words, find M and θ .
