To explain: The two antigens of S. aureus that are detected by using the test kit.
Introduction: Any toxic or foreign substances that induce the immune system of the body and synthesize specific antibodies are referred to as antigens. It stimulates the immune response by activating the lymphocytes to produce antibodies or directly attack the antigen.
Explanation of Solution
The two antigens of S. aureus have been detected using the test kit are protein A and coagulase. They are the important virulence factors of S. aureus. Coagulase is an enzyme that might cause the formation of a clot in the capillaries at the site of infection. Thus, it prevents the reaching of leukocytes at the infection site. The leukocytes are essential in the inflammatory response.
Protein A is the component of the cell wall of S. aureus. It reacts with the immunoglobulins of the host and coats the bacterial cell. This coating of immunoglobulin inhibits the process of phagocytosis and protects the bacterial cell. Thus, these two antigens are detected to test whether the organism produces the virulence factors or not.
