To determine: The information from the slope of the line about the behavior of the lizard.
Introduction: The horned lizards have flattened body and spikes on head and body which is distinguishable from their ancestors. These spikes help them to defend against predators. The evolution of horned lizard can be explained by Darwin’s theory of natural selection.
Explanation of Solution
The tropical lizard has a behavioral system that helps it to manage a fairly uniform temperature of the body. The lizard basks in the open sun where there are patches of sunlight and then goes back to shade when the body becomes too hot. In shaded areas where there is low availability of sun the lizards adapt and becomes conformer, and subsequently adjust their body temperature to that of the surrounding.
The slope of the lizards in shaded areas indicate the constant increase in body temperature with respect to the surrounding whereas the slope of the tropical lizard in open habitat shows a uniform range of temperature maintained by the organisms irrespective of the change in air temperature.

- Figure 1.15 Example of error bars in a graph. This graph was adapted from the peacock butterfly research described in Section 1.5. The researchers recorded the number of times each butterfly flicked its wings in response to an attack by a bird. The squares represent average frequency of wing flicking for each sample set of butterflies. The error bars that extend above and below the dots indicate the range of valuesthe sampling error. Figure It Out: What was the fastest rate at which a butterfly with no spots or sound flicked its wings?arrow_forwardVisit the SHARK LAGOONhttps://explore.org/livecams/aquarium-of-the-pacific/shark-lagoon-cam1. How many gill slits does it have?3. Sharks are able to detect bioelectric fields of their prey. What other adaptations (morphological, behavioral, or physiological) do these sharks possess that make them excellent predators?arrow_forwardPrey detection can be a challenge in the different environments. Describe how the challenge of detecting prey in any given environment (water, air, earth) has been accomplished in three (3) different Orders of herptile (your choice, but include at least one Order from each taxaonomic Class). Be sure to explain how that trait overcomes some challenge posed by the environment.arrow_forward

Watch, listen, and record your observations in a journal using descriptive words and sketches, or photograph birds to capture a permanent, detailed image that you can study later. If you are just starting to watch birds, consider familiarizing yourself with the ones that you see daily. What are their general characteristics? Are they big or small, colorful or drab? Do they sit still or flit from branch to branch? Then, try comparing new birds that you see with the common birds that you already know. Is your new discovery the size of a sparrow, a robin, or a crow? Is its bill short or long, hooked or straight? Learning the basic form and structure, or morphology, of a bird will help you to make comparisons of birds. Concentrate on the shape and size of the beak, including the relative size of the upper and lower beak; length of the outer tail…arrow_forward

External gills are present. Fins and balancers are present on some species. Balancers are a pair of organs on the underside of either side of the head that keeps them upright in the water. During metamorphosis the gills and fins are lost, the gill slits close, there is a modification of skin for terrestrial existence, and lungs develop. Question: What do you notice about the development of the legs in salamander larvae. Which legs develop first? Is this different from the anuran larvae? (please answer both parts)arrow_forward
