Solve each problem using two variables and a system of two equations. Solve the system by the method of your choice. Note that some of these problems lead to dependent or inconsistent systems.
Flat Tax The 2012 tax rate schedule for a single taxpayer is given in the accompanying table (Internal Revenue Service, www.irs.ustreas.gov). Suppose the federal tax were simplified to be $100 plus 25% of taxable income. Use a system of equations to find the taxable income at which a single taxpayer would pay the same amount of tax under the simplified plan as under the 2012 schedule.
