Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation:

The mass of nitrogen that is dissolved in $100\text{g}$ of water saturated with air at $4.0\text{atm}$ and $20°\text{C}$ has to be calculated.  The answer obtained has to be compared to that for $100\text{g}$ of water saturated with air at $1.0\text{atm}$.  The increase in concentration of nitrogen in fatty tissues when the pressure increases from $1.0\text{atm}$ to $4.0\text{atm}$ has to be calculated.

Concept introduction:

According to the Henry’s law, the vapour pressure of the solute is directly proportional to its mole fraction.  The formula to calculate the vapour pressure of B is,

    $p_{\text{B}}=K_{\text{B}}{\chi }_{\text{B}}$

Where,

• $p_{\text{B}}$ is the vapour pressure of component B in solution.
• $K_{\text{B}}$ is the Henry’s constant.
• ${\chi }_{\text{B}}$ is the mole fraction of component B.
