Question
Chapter 5, Problem 1P
To determine
Summarize the number of neutrons, protons, and electrons for neutral atoms of the following nuclides:
Expert Solution & Answer
Explanation of Solution
For nuclide
Find the atomic number (Z):
Refer Periodic Table,
The atomic number (Z) (it gives both the number of protons and electrons for the neutral atom) is 14.
Find the number of neutrons (N):
Here, A is total number of nucleons.
Substitute 29 for A and 14 for Z.
Similarly calculate the number of neutrons, protons, and electrons for the remaining neutral atoms.
Summarize the calculated values of number of neutrons, protons, and electrons as in Table (1).
Nuclide | Neutrons (N) | Protons | Electrons |
15 | 14 | 14 | |
23 | 21 | 21 | |
26 | 23 | 23 | |
127 | 83 | 83 | |
147 | 94 | 94 |
