Chapter 5, Problem 11P

Goodwynn & Wolf Incorporated (G&W) issued a bond 7 years ago. The bond had a 20-year maturity, a 14% coupon paid annually, a 9% call premium and was issued at par, $1,000. Today, G&W called the bonds. If the original investors had expected G&W to call the bonds in 7 years, what was the yield to call at the time the bonds were issued?

Rick Barr Properties has two bonds outstanding. Bond A was issued 15 years ago with a coupon rate of 8%. The other, Bond B, was issued 12 years ago with a coupon rate of 8%. Both bonds were originally issued as 30-year bonds with coupon payments made semi-annually. The current market rate (YTM) is 11%? What is the current price of Bond A? What is the current price of Bond B?
The Emory Corporation issued an 8%, 25-year bond 15 years ago. At the time of issue it sold for its par (face) value of $1,000.  Comparable bonds are yielding 10% today.  What must Emory’s bond sell for in today’s market to yield 10% (YTM) to the buyer?  Assume the bond pays interest annually.  Also calculate the bond’s current yield. a) Suppose the bond was issued 20 years ago what price must it be sold for today and also calculate the bond’s current yield b) Assume the bond was issued 5 years ago what price must it be sold for today and also calculate the bond’s current yield
Choice Hotels International originally issued a 10 ⅜ bond in 1992. These $1,000 par value bonds mature in five years. What is the value of the Choice Hotels International bond at 10.375%, assuming the investor will hold the bond to maturity? Assume the coupons are paid annually. I ask that you process this step by step as detailed as possible, because the math is what is most confusing to me.  So as much as I would like the end solution, the math is the most important part so that I can learn and understand it.  I don't mind it being explained like I'm a 5 year old.
