Introduction:

Heligmosomoides polygyrus (Hp) is a naturally occurring roundworm of rodents. It inhabits the intestinal tract of rodents. The studies revealed that the percentage of developing diabetes type 1 is significantly decreased in mice prone to disease after Hp infection.

Based on this evidence, it has to be decided whether diabetic patients can intentionally infect their children with the worms to decrease the risk of diabetes. Although the intestinal worm infection may decrease the risk of diabetes, it can cause potential side-effects as well.
