Concept introduction: Developmental dysplasia of hip (DDH) is a condition characterized by abnormal relationship of femoral relationship to the acetabulum. It may be present congenitally but it develops in the newborn or infant stage. It is common lower limb disorder affecting children.
Explanation of Solution
Developmental dysplasia of hip consists of a physiologically immature hip joint that resolves to the dislocation of the hip joint. This condition requires surgery. If DDH is diagnosed early, that is, within first 10 weeks of an individual’s life, it can be treated conservatively. Most of the cases can be managed with abduction harnessing without the requirement of any further intervention along with good outcome.
