Chapter 4, Problem 4.2E
Program Plan Intro
Backup:
- The backup is the process of taking identical copy of file, data, or code which can be used when original data is lost, corrupted, or spoiled.
- The user should use high quality media to back up the files and the best option is optical disc or external hard drive.
Storage media for backups:
Hard drive:
- It is a storage device that stores and retrieves the data.
- It is a rotating disk coated with the magnetic materials and holds the data even when the power is off.
- Hard drives are 2.5 inches in size and its storage space ranges from 160 GB to 2 TB.
Optical disc:
- It is an electromagnetic data storage device that can be written to read using a low-powered laser beam.
- Examples of optical discs such as Compact Discs (CDs), and Digital Video Discs (DVDs). CD and DVD are the optical standards, which are less expensive.
- Optical discs can store up to 25 GB of data.
USB flash drive:
- Memory sticks, thumb drives, or jump drives are the various names for USB flash drive.
- It is compact and it is easy to use. After plugging the USB device into USB port, it is ready to perform the read and write operations.
- The storage capacity ranges from 128 MB to 256 GB.
Cloud storage:
- The cloud backup is a process of taking copies of the files and data into cloud.
- It maintains the backup hardware. The files are retrieved from anywhere but it requires internet connection.
- Many users are choosing cloud storage because it is not expensive.
- A single person can store up to 5 TB of data in Google cloud.
