Summary Introduction

Introduction:

Auxin is a phytohormone responsible for stimulating the division and elongation of cells. It is also involved in root initiation and bud formation. It is also responsible for the production of other phytohormones when working in harmony with cytokinin. This hormone is synthesized in developing leaves, apical meristem, and developing an embryo. It affects the growing tissues present in all parts of the plant.

Plant cells communicate in a variety of ways to elicit cellular responses. In the figure below the plant is responding the presence of light with the release of auxin. Auxin was first discovered for its ability to promote growth in plants. It is a plant hormone that inhibits the lengthening and stimulate the formation of lateral roots and root hairs.  (b) Explain the role that auxin has in eliciting the plant’s response.

Which of the following is NOT an accurate statement about the acid growth hypothesis? Select one: O A. Expansins are activated by high acidity in the cell wall O B. It explains cell elongation in response to auxin O C. Wedge- shaped expansin enzymes separate cross-linking polysaccharides from microfibrils O D.
