To determine: The two sublayers of the photosynthetic ground tissue of a leaf.
Introduction: Plants are non-motile living beings that are capable of producing their own food by utilizing the sunlight, carbon dioxide, and water. They form the kingdom Plantae that includes all the plants such as trees, shrubs, bryophytes, and pteridophytes. They are very useful for human beings, as they are the source of food and many other utilities. The leaf consists of various tissues. A layer of epidermis is present in the upper and lower surfaces of a leaf blade.

- Living cells are connected to one another by plasmodesmata that extend through tiny holes in the walls. If this is true, does a leaf really need veins for the acquisition and distribution of materials?arrow_forwardDraw a “typical” plant cell and include all of the organelles mentioned in this chapter. Most cells have specialized functions and increased proportions ofcertain organelles. How would you change your drawing if the cell is involved in photosynthesis? Is part of a yellow or orange petal? Secretes protein-rich digestive fluid? Needs a great deal of ATP? Stores starch? Has just grown a great amount?arrow_forwardWhy are xylem and phloem called complex tissues?arrow_forward
- What cellular processes are occurring between when light strikes the leaf and the final production of starch?arrow_forwardWhat is the special name of photosynthetic parenchyma cells? Which organelle is especially abundant in these? How does wall thinness affect carbon dioxide and light?arrow_forwardWhat are the extremely fine holes that interconnect plant cells? What is the name of the especially thin areas of walls where these holes are particularly common ?arrow_forward
- What are the four major types of plant tissues?arrow_forwardWhy is the colour of a leaf kept in the dark frequently yellow, or pale green?Which pigment do you think is more stable?arrow_forwardAnswefr the following questions: a.) How many cells thick is the upper epidermis in the leaf structure? b.) Does this layer contain choloroplast? c.) Do cells of the lower epidermis contain chloroplast?arrow_forward
- Diagram 1: Cross Section of a leaf-cells and structures. cuticle -upper epidermis palisade layer chloroplasts vascular bundle spongy mesophyll -intercellular chamber -lower epidermis stoma A possible explanation to explain the presence of the stoma structure would be that it stores extra water the leaf does not need. allows a passageway for gasses to enter and exit the leaf makes sugar needed by the cells. O maximizes the absorption of sunlight energy O O O Oarrow_forwardWhat is phloem?arrow_forwardWhat structure is used to transport organic molecules from the leaf to other parts of the plant? Why are leaves green? How does a plant increase its biomass What is the function of the photosystemsarrow_forward
