Introduction:

A plant’s shoot system primarily consists of stem and leaves. The stem of the plants serve four functions, these are, mechanical support, store water, food, and house for xylem and phloem. It contains tissue such as meristems that give rise to new cells. The stem contains a node (where leaves are attached to a stem), internode (an area between the node), lateral buds, and terminal bud that give rise to new branches or shoots.
