To outline: The role of titin.
Introduction: Muscle is made up of muscle fibers, and each fiber has different bands. A band which consists of actin protein, M band, which consists of myosin filaments, a Z line consists of the protein to which actin filaments are attached.
Explanation of Solution
A sarcomere is a structure in a muscle fiber that consists of half dark and half of light bands. Inside the sarcomere, actin filaments are attached to the proteins of Z-line, but myosin filaments are held at their place because of a protein called titin. Titin is a giant and largest known protein. Titin protein covers myosin molecules and Z-line. Therefore, the titin protein has two functions. It holds the myosin protein, and it is elastic near the Z line; therefore it also helps in the process of stretching.
