Concept explainers
To state:
The definition of the term metamorphosis.
Introduction:
In the life history of some animals such as frogs and insects, eggs hatch into larva which does not physically like the adults. The larva undergoes sequential stages of change to become adult. This change is called metamorphosis.
Explanation of Solution
Metamorphosis a process in which there is transformation of one stage to the next stage in the life cycle of an organism. It is initiated and carried out under the influence of an hormone.
For example, in the life cycle of butterfly, caterpillar larva changed into a pupa and then pupa transforms into miniature adult. the conversion of larva to an adult is the metamorphosis.
Metamorphosis is a series of developmental changes in the form or structure of an organism.
