To identify:
Is the given statement is a good idea.“As if after growing carrots for one season a gardener decides that the carrots are too small. Since carrots are biennials, the gardener crops the leaves in the ground for a second year, thinking the carrots roots will grow larger”.
Introduction:
The carrot plant comes under the umbellifer family Apiaceae. Carrot is usually found in orange, purple, white and yellow color, it is also termed as root vegetable. Taproot is the most common edible part of the carrot. The root of carrot contains alpha as well as beta carotene. Carotene is a main source of vitamin B6 and vitamin K.
As carrot is a biennial plant that grows leaves rosette in the summer and spring season too. However the taproot of the carrot stores sugars in a huge amount. In the second year stout taproot formation occurs. Thus this plant forms flower in the second year.

- What is the habit growth of potato, onion, turnip, carrots, and ginger?arrow_forwardGive explain.arrow_forwardB. LEAF ADAPTATION The main function of the leaf is in the processes of photosynthesis and transpiration. Apart from these functions, leaf is sometimes adapted to perform other functions. Examples of leaf adaptations are for: a) Support, which could be seen by the presence of tendrils b) Catching insects, by having cup-liked shape of hairs sensitive to touch c) Reproduction, by having meristematic cells able to produce new shoots that will go on to become new individual plants d) Food and water storage, especially found in plants living in dry areas where water is scarce (for example succulent plants, having leaf storing food and water) e) Floatation, for plants living on the water surface, their leaves in general will have air openings on tissues (used for floating) usually found on leaf petiole f) Protection, by having leaves completely or partially modified as thorns Instruction: a) 1. Search for ONE plant species with the following leaf adaptations 2. Give their scientific names…arrow_forward
- what are the flaws ? Plants reproduce in a pattern known as alternation of generations. A haploid gametophyte produces gametes through mitosis. The gametes fuse to form a zygote, which then grows into a diploid sporophyte. The sporophyte produces spores through meiosis, which then grow into a gametophyte and start the process over. Flowers are how angiosperms reproduce. A whorl of sepals (corolla) is at the base of the flower, followed by a whorl of petals (calyx). Inside the flower is a female organ known as a carpel and it is made of a stigma, style, and ovary. The male organ is the stamen and it is made of an anther and filament. Pollen being transferred to the style is known as pollination. Once the pollen travels down the style and reaches the egg, fertilization happens when sperm meets egg. Then, the fertilized egg and surrounding tissue develops into a seed. A seed is protected by a seed coat and contains endosperm and an embryo. The endosperm grows into a new plant while…arrow_forwardQuestion: What is the direction of the stem of carrots, potato, turnip, ginger, and onion?arrow_forwardUnit 13 DQ; Structural Plant Modifications for Extreme Climates Plants have different strategies to cope with extreme climatic condition.
