The secretions are produced by the seminal vesicles that are important for sperm transport. The fluid secreted is commonly known as semen and is essential component of the male reproduction. The fluid produced is alkaline in nature, thus it neutralizes the acidic surrounding of the male urethra and female reproductive system, which otherwise could kill or inactivate the sperm. The seminal vesicle also provides fructose for producing ATP (adenosine triphosphate) by the sperm.
