Concept explainers
To explain:
The physician orders the belt restraint to Ms. Cohen. The next day during the assessment, Ms. Cohen is alert and pleasantly confused, however, she is not trying to get out of the bed. Do you continue the use of the restraint? Explain.
Case summary:
Ms. Cohen is hospitalized to repair her fractured hip due to the fall in her home. The patient needs IV (intravenous) antibiotics after surgery. Soon after the administration of the first dose, the patient became restless and she tried to remove her IV line. Also, she often tried to come out of the bed. Various alternatives for restraint were tried, however, due to her restlessness, she was pulling out the IV line and was also getting out of the bed often. Hence, the use of the restraint is necessary to Ms. Cohen.
