Chapter 26.2, Problem 5QC
Summary Introduction
To review:
The changes that occur incorpuscavernosa and corpusspongiosum during sexual excitement.
Introduction:
The penis contains three cylindrical erectile bodies called corpora. These are spongy networks of connective tissues and smooth muscles. The first two erectile bodies are called corpuscavernosa and the third one is called corpusspongiosum. These structures collectively make up the root of the penis.

What effects do psychic, tactile, parasympathetic, andsympathetic stimulation have on the male sex act?
How do both parasympathetic and sympathetic stimulation contribute to penile function during sexual arousal?
Sexual arousal results in a generally positive sympathetic response, e.g. increased heart rate, increased breathing rate and depth, etc. How is it, then, that erection can occur if sympathetic activity causes vasoconstriction and prevents blood flow into the vascular spaces of the penis?
