Chapter 26, Problem 4MCQ
Summary Introduction
Introduction:
Microscopic examinations of vaginal smears are used to detect microbial infections and other diseases. This test can be done using vaginal secretions or discharge. A small drop of vaginal discharge with a salt solution (PBS) is placed on a glass slide and covered with a cover slip. Clue cells, bacterial and yeast growth can be observed under a microscope. Vaginal and cervical infections may lead to vaginal discharge, hence, a careful physical examination and test is required to differentiate these conditions. Vaginal infections are majorly caused by Trichomonas, Candida, and bacterial infections.
