Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation: The stepwise mechanism for the conversion of $\text{β,γ-}$ unsaturated steroidal ketones to their $\text{α,β-}$ unsaturated isomers has to be proposed.

Concept introduction:

Ketones contain carbonyl $\left(\text{C=O}\right)$ functional group in their parent chain.

In the acid-catalyzed rearrangement and addition to $\text{β,γ-}$ unsaturated steroidal ketones, the double bond or the carbonyl group is placed in a strained environment and results in the formation of their $\text{α,β-}$ unsaturated isomers.
