In the financial world, there are many types of complex instruments called derivatives that derive their value from the value of an underlying asset. Consider the following simple derivative. A stock’s current price is £100 per share. You purchase a derivative whose value to you becomes known a month from now. Specifically, let S be the price of the stock in a month. If S is between £90 and £110, the derivative is worth nothing to you. If S is less than £90, the derivative results in a loss of £100*(90-S) to you. (The factor of 100 is because many derivatives involve 100 shares.) If S is greater than £110, the derivative results in a gain of £100*(S-110) to you. Assume that the distribution of the change in the stock price from now to a month from now is normally distributed with a mean £2 and a standard deviation £10. Let P(big loss) be the probability that you lose at least £1,000 (that is, the price falls below £90), and let P(big gain) be the probability that you gain at least…

One such model for a class of Internet IPOs predicts the percent overvaluation of a stock as a function of time as R(t)=250(t2/(2.718)3t) where R (t) is the overvaluation in percent and t is the time in months after the initial issue. a. Use the information provided by the first derivative, second derivative, and asymptotes to prepare advice for clients as to when they should expect a signal to prepare to buy or sell (inflection point), the exact time when they should buy or sell (local maximum and minimum), and any false signals prior to a horizontal asymptote. - The pounds of bananas sold each week at all Metro Seattle Albertsons stores as a function of price, p , in dollars/pound(lb.) is given by q(p) = 100e7.5-1.5p1. Express the Revenue function in terms of p and then find both the first and second derivatives of the revenue function. Type each of these in your text box, using appropriate standard mathematical formatting notation (like that shown above) in Excel. 2. Use Excel over an interval of [0, 6] in increments of .25 to create values for all 3 of your functions from part 1. This is hard! You should be getting the beginning values shown on the next page. Keep at it until you do!! You must create these values by typing in and using the correct formulas. 3. Use Excel to determine exactly where there are any Maximum and/or Minimum values for Revenue. In your text box, explain fully and completely how you determine where to look, and how you know from the First Derivative Test that you have a maximum or a minimum value. 4. - (b) Given that nothing else is borrowed in the near future, the length of time it will take a government to completely eliminate its stock of debt will be entirely dependent on how much more annual repayments exceed the annual interest expenses. The interest expense portion of the debt is a function of the present stock of debt, y, and is given by i(y) = y – y? The amount of money that the government repays to reduce its debt stock is assumed to be a fraction, a, of the present stock of debt. Repayment is done at the end of each financial year. (i) (ii) Solve for the present stock of debt, y, as a function of t. What will happen to government debt as t → o? Justify your response.arrow_forward14. - An investor is presented with a choice of two investments: an established furniture store and a new book store. Each choice requires the same initial investment and each produces a continuous income stream of 6%, compounded continuously. The rate of flow of income from the furniture store is f(t)= 18,000, and the rate of flow of income from the book store is expected to be g(t) = 16,000e0.03t Compare the future values of these investments to determine which is the better choice over the next 8 years.
