Chapter 2.3, Problem 2E
Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation:

To find the fixed points for the given model chemical reaction and classify the as stable or unstable. To plot the graph of the solution of the given equation for different initial conditions.

Concept Introduction:

The model chemical reaction is given for the autocatalysis. Also, the equation for the kinetics is given.

At fixed points, the value of the function x˙ is equal to zero.

Using the given equation for the kinetics and the abovementioned property of the fixed points, the possible fixed points can be found.

Also, for the solution of x(t) the graph for different initial conditions for x(t) can be plotted.

Activity no. 3 4. A tank with a volume of 1800 gallons originally contains 1200 gallons of fresh water. The first pipe containing 1/3 lb of salt per gallon is entering at a rate of 4 gal/min. The second pipe containing 1/2 lb of salt per gallon is entering at a rate of 6 gal/min. The mixture is allowed to flow out of the tank at a rate of 4 gal/min. Find the amount of sair in the tank at any time prior to the instant when the solution begins to overflow.
