The mechanism for the Friedel-Crafts acylation involving acetyl chloride is as follows, but most of the curved arrows and the overall products have been omitted. The overall product with each elementary step and the appropriate reaction arrow is to be drawn.

Concept introduction:

Friedel-crafts acylation of benzene is carried out in much the same way as Friedel-crafts alkylation. The difference is that the aromatic species is treated with an acid chloride, also called an acyl chloride. Instead of an alkyl chloride, the product is an aromatic ketone, in which a C atom from benzene forms a bond to the C atom of the acyl group.
