To determine:
What are the female and male sex cells called?
Introduction:
The reproductive system of humans is an organ system where the humans reproduce and bears offspring (live).
Explanation of Solution
The sex cells of the males are known as sperms , whereas the sex cells of females are known as oocytes or eggs . The sex cells possess only a single set of genetic instructions, which is carried in 23 chromosomes. The rest of the cells of the body possess two sets of 46 chromosomes.
The sex cells are joined at the time of fertilization. Thus, when fertilization takes place, the amount of genetic information is restored in the 46 chromosomes. By the process of meiosis which is a type of cell division, the oocytes and sperms are produced.
The sex cells of the males are known as sperms, whereas the sex cells of females are known as oocytes or eggs.
