Explain the roles of the satiety and feeding centers. Where are they located?
To explain: The role of satiety and feeding centers.
Introduction: The digestive system of the human comprises several organs and accessory digestive organs that constitute to make the complete gastrointestinal (GI) tract. The GI tract extends from the anterior opening (mouth) and ends in the posterior opening (anus).
Explanation of Solution
Hypothalamus in the brain is responsible for the behavioral regulation of the food intake. The two hypothalamic centers responsible for the generation of signals which guide behavior and also generate sensations of hunger and fullness are feeding center and satiety center. Feeding center is active center for the intake of food, and the satiety center stops the intake of food by suppressing the feeding center. if the feeding center of a center is destroyed, the person cease to eat, whereas if the satiety center is destroyed then the person will become obese due to overeating.
Feeding center signals for the intake of food, whereas satiety center stops the intake of food by suppressing feeding center.
To explain: The location of satiety and feeding centers.
Introduction: Feeding and satiety centers are responsible for behavioural regulation of the food intake. The appetite and the amount of food that is required by a person is regulated by these two centers.
Explanation of Solution
Feeding and satiety centers are present on the hypothalamus of the brain. These centers are the connecting link with the nervous system and the endocrine system.
Feeding center and satiety center are the two hypothalamic centers of the brain.
