Concept explainers
To determine:
The different types of tissues which makes up the human body’s organ system.
Introduction:
The tissues are the group of cells having similar function and structure. Various types of tissues performs the same function and combine together to form an organ. These organ combines to form an organ system of the body.
Explanation of Solution
The various types of tissues are as follows:
- Epithelial tissue
- Connective tissue
- Muscular tissue
- Nervous tissue
Epithelial Tissue
Epithelial tissue forms the outermost covering of an organ system. It protects the organ system from damage from any external stimuli in the body from various chemical components which are present inside the organ itself.
For example, various acids are present in the stomach which may cause harm to the stomach. Epithelial lining of the stomach prevents the wall of the stomach from getting damaged by the acid. Hence, this tissue has a protective function.
Connective Tissue
As the name suggests, connective tissue connects the various components of the cell. Along with that, various organs are connected to each other with the help of this tissue. Connective tissue comprises of blood. Since blood flows inside the body, various nutrients and minerals are transliterated through it inside the body. This tissue connects the various organs of the body through transportation.
Muscular Tissue
Skeletal muscle - As the name suggests, skeletal muscles are attached to the skeletal. It has stripes and it works voluntarily, which means one can control it with the help of the nervous system.
Cardiac muscle - Cardiac muscle is the heart muscle which are also striated (striped) like skeletal muscle but are not voluntary in nature. Cardiac muscle is involuntary, which means they contract and relax spontaneously.
Smooth muscle - Like cardiac muscle, smooth muscles are also involuntary in nature. However, unlike the cardiac and skeletal muscles, they do not show stripes microscopically. Smooth muscle contributes majorly to the organs more specifically to the hollow bodies.
Nervous Tissue
It comprises of the sensory organs of the body which collects the signals in response to any stimuli. These tissues only generate the reflex in turn to the stimuli as ordered by the nervous system.
Hence, epithelial tissue, connective tissue, nervous tissue, and muscular tissue makes up each of the major organ systems of the human body.
