Chapter 20, Problem 5Q
Summary Introduction
To explain: The importance of regulatory action of gap junctions.
Introduction: Cells are interconnected and communicate through a protein channel called gap junction. Small molecules pass across the cell membrane to reach neighboring cells through gap junction. These protein channels (gap junctions) are only present in animal cells that mediate the transfer of chemical signals in the form of ions and molecules to neighboring cells. Exchange of these types of proteins is very helpful that act as a chemical messenger to start or stop (regulate) cellular processes.
