True or False: If a sleeve bearing fails in a small, fractional horsepower motor, the motor is generally replaced.
Whether the statement is true or false.
Answer to Problem 1RQ
The statement is true.
Explanation of Solution
Electric motors- An electrical machine which converts electrical energy into mechanical energy as a shaft power is called Electric motors. An Electric motors can be operates on DC (Direct current) or in AC (Alternative current) current.
Sleeve bearings- Sleeve bearings is a type of bearing which is used to provide linear movement between the two machine parts and reduce noise and vibration by reducing the friction between the machine parts.
The types of sleeve bearing are following.
- Rigid steel-backed babbit bearing
- Self-aligning sintered bearing
In an electric motor sleeve bearing is used to turn the winding of wires of the motor placed between the magnetic fields. If a sleeve bearing is failed then the winding of wires of the motor placed between the magnetic fields is not turn, so this is necessary to replace the sleeve bearing for proper working of winding of wires of the motor placed between the magnetic fields for proper work of motor.
Conclusion:
The statement "If a sleeve bearing fails in a small, fractional horsepower motor, the motor is generally replaced" is true.
