Explanation The comparison between the pulmonary circulation and systemic circulation are described below: 1. Pulmonary circuits: The blood flow pathway in pulmonary circuit is: (i) When the blood enters the right atrium, it contracts which results in the transfer of blood into the right ventricle through the tricuspid AV valve. (ii) When the blood enters into the right ventricle, it is pushed into the pulmonary trunk through the pulmonary semilunar valve. The pulmonary trunk bifurcates into two pulmonary arteries , which pass the blood into respective lungs. The blood in the pulmonary trunk is deoxygenated. (iii) Pulmonary capillaries inside the lungs allow gas exchange. Inside the lungs the carbon dioxide leaves the blood and the oxygen enters the blood. Thus the deoxygenated blood is converted into the oxygenated blood. (iv) Then, the oxygenated blood from the left and the right lungs is passed into the left atrium of the heart through the four respective pulmonary veins : two left and two right pulmonary veins. (v) From the right atrium, the oxygenated blood is pumped into the left ventricle through the bicuspid AV valve. 2.
