To explain: The reason that only L-amino acids and a not a random mixture of L- and D- forms of each amino acids are used to make a protein.
Concept introduction:
Except glycine every amino acid can occur in two isomeric forms. “The enantiomer that rotates plane polarized light clockwise (+) was arbitrarily labelled D and the other enantiomers (-) became L”. Each amino acid has special arrangement due to their side group. L-amino acid have different conformation than D-amino acids.
