Concept Introduction:

The total heat lost to the surrounding from the system is assumed to be zero in calorimetry. So, the following equation is used to calculate the final temperature:

  mc×ΔUC+mw×ΔUw+mt×ΔUt=0

Here, ΔU=CPΔT

Thus, the equation becomes:

  mc×CPS×(T2-TC)=mw×CPW+mt×CPS×(T2-T1)

Here, mc is mass of casting, mw is mass of water and mt is mass of steel tank.
