Where is the neutral layer in a horizontal beam that supports a load?
To Find: Neutral layer in a horizontal beam that supports a load.
Explanation of Solution
Introduction:
A horizontal support beam at one or both ends is under stress from load it supports including its own weight.
In a beam, atoms are tugged away from one another. In beam top part is slightly longer and lower part is compressed. But in middle of a beam it is neither compressed nor stretched. This layer is neutral layer of the beam.
Conclusion:
Neutral layer of a beam is center layer of a beam which is neither in tension nor compression.
