Diagnosis and laboratory testing is a procedure which includes the growth and culturing of bacteria on culture plates. Enzymatic assays are performed which are characteristic properties of specific strains of bacteria. Staining is done to confirm species of bacteria as different stains are used for identification. They stain the outer polysaccharides present in the membrane of bacteria.
