Question
Chapter 16, Problem 4Q
Summary Introduction
To explain: The reason why cyclic AMP must be broken down rapidly in a cell to avoid rapid signaling.
Concept introduction: Cyclic AMP (adenosine monophosphate) is a water soluble secondary messenger that belongs to GPCR family and helps to carry the signal cascade throughout the cell traversing the length between the site of synthesis on the plasma membrane and target location. Cyclic AMP (cAMP) is either synthesized by the breakdown of ATP using Adenylyl cyclase or opening the cyclic AMP channels on the membrane as in the case of rhodopsin signaling.
