Solar energy generation along highways. The potential of
using solar panels constructed above national highways to
generate energy was explored in the International Journal
of Energy and Environmental Engineering (December
2013). Two-layer solar panels (with 1 meter separating the
panels) were constructed above sections of both east-west
and north-south highways in India. The amount of
(kilowatt-hours) supplied to the country's grid by the solar
panels above the two types of highways was determined
each month. The data for several randomly selected months
are provided in the table. The researchers concluded that
the "two-layer solar panel energy generation is more viable
for the north-south oriented highways as compared to east-
west oriented roadways." Compare the mean solar energy
amounts generated for the two types of highways using a
95% confidence interval. Does the interval support the re-
energy
searchers' conclusion?

A critically important aspect of customer service in a supermarket is the waiting time at the checkout (defined as the time the customer enters the line until he or she is served). Data were collected during time periods where there were a constant number of checkout counters open. The total number of customers in the store and the waiting times (in minutes) were recorded. The results are displayed in the accompanying table. Complete parts (a) through (d).

Over the course of his career, his overall made free-throw percentage was 53.3%. During one off-season, Shaq had been working with an assistant coach on his free-throw technique. During the next season, a simple random sample showed that Shaq made 26 of 39 free- throw attempts. Test the claim that Shaq has significantly improved his free-throw shooting using a 0.05 significance level. What is the standard error? (round to the nearest thousandth)arrow_forward

- Peoples of the Democratic Republic of the Congo In spite of the devastation of the Great African War (1995 – 2007, analyzed in learning activity four of this unit) that caused the death of an estimated seven million Congolese, the DRC remains the fourth most populated country in Africa with a population of 79.4 million (2015), following Nigeria, Ethiopia and Egypt. The DRC’s population is currently growing at 2.7 percent annually. Not unlike most African countries, the population of the DRC is heavily skewed to youth: 44% of the national population is under 24 years of age! Compare this to 32% of the population for the same age group in the U.S. and 24% in Japan. This demographic reality makes great demands on the government and economy of the DRC in terms of providing schooling (and other social services) and opportunities for employment in an economy decimated by war, mismanagement, and the on-going legacy of the exploitation of the DRC’s natural resources by international…arrow_forwardBefore taking the plunge into videoconferencing, a company ran tests of its current internal computer network.
