Summary Introduction
The stringent response is a stress response that occurs in bacteria when they are starved for amino acids, fatty acid limitation, iron limitation, heat shock, and other stress conditions. It is regulated by guanosine tetraphosphate (ppGpp) which is a second messenger. The stringent response causes a decrease in transcription of rRNA and tRNA and increases the transcription of the biosynthetic genes of amino acids.
