Chapter 14.2, Problem 3R
A.
Summary Introduction
To define: Dual innervation.
Introduction: Autonomic nervous system (ANS) is a functional division of the peripheral nervous system. It consists of two autonomic neurons in the efferent pathway, namely preganglionic neurons and postganglionic neurons. The cell body of the preganglionic neurons is in the central nervous system (CNS), whereas the cell body of the postganglionic neurons lies entirely outside CNS. The autonomic nervous system can be broadly classified (structurally and functionally)into two parts, namely the sympathetic nervous system (SNS) and the parasympathetic nervous system (PNS).
B.
Summary Introduction
To explain: The autonomic tone and its role in controlling visceral function.
