Chapter 14, Problem 9DC
Summary Introduction

The concentration of potassium (K+), an electrolyte is usually more in the intracellular fluid (ICF) than the extracellular fluid (ECF). The potassium ion determines the volume as well as intracellular osmolarity of the cell. Also, it regulates the resting membrane potential and depolarization of muscular and nervous systems with sodium (Na). Approximately 90% of K+ ions are filtered through the glomerulus, and they are reabsorbed by the proximal convoluted tubule (PCT). The rest of the K+ ions are excreted through the urine.
