Concept explainers
To discuss:
The becoming of more adaptive species to its environment over time if the mutation occurs at random with respect to an organism needs.
Concept introduction:
The mutations are sudden permanent changes in the genetic constitution of an organism. The mutations have detrimental or beneficial effects on the organism based on the situation and needs of organisms.
Explanation of Solution
The mutations cause alterations in the expression of genes. The effect can be harmful, neutral, or positive. The neutral and harmful genes decrease the chances of survival of the organisms due to competition among the species and other organisms. The neutral and harmful genes will be eliminated from the populations because the genes are not beneficial for their survival.
The beneficial mutant genes that give more advantages over the other organisms in survival will be continued in the populations. These genes will help the organisms for fulfilling their needs.
So, the random mutations that are beneficial for the organism are continued and the organisms become more adapted to the surroundings.
