Chapter 12.2, Problem 92E

In Exercises 12.85–12.94, use Procedure 12.2 on page 557 to perform an appropriate hypothesis test. Be sure to check the conditions for using that procedure.

12.92 Delayed Perinatal Stroke. In the article “Prothrombotic Factors in Children With Stroke or Porencephaly” (Pediatrics Journal, Vol. 116, Issue 2, pp. 447–453), J. Lynch et al. compared differences and similarities in children with arterial ischemic stroke and porencephaly. Three classification categories were used: perinatal stroke, delayed perinatal stroke, and childhood stroke. Of 59 children, 25 were diagnosed with delayed perinatal stroke. At the 5% significance level, do the data provide sufficient evidence to conclude that delayed perinatal stroke does not comprise one-third of the cases among the three categories?

A random sample of 15 families representing three social classes has been observed for the frequency with which the parents administer physical punishment to the children over a period of a week. Are the differences significant? Use α = .05 and the five-step model to conduct your hypothesis test. Write a sentence or two interpreting your results. Working Class: 10,9,4,2,1 Middle Class: 11,10,5,2,0 Upper Class: 7,5,2,0,0
5)  In a bumper test, three test vehicles of each of three types of autos were crashed into a barrier at 5 mph, and the resulting damage was estimated.  Crashes were from three angles: head-on, slanted, and rear-end.  The data appears below. a) Use JMP to fit a two-way ANOVA to the data. Using a = 0.05 draw conclusions for the ANOVA. Make sure you state your conclusion in the context of the problem. b) Does there appear to be a need to include the vehicle type / crash angle interaction term? c) Use JMP to fit a two-way ANOVA with interaction to the data.   Auto Angle Damage Goliath Head-On 700 Goliath Head-On 1400 Goliath Head-On 850 Goliath Slant 1430 Goliath Slant 1740 Goliath Slant 1240 Goliath Rear end 700 Goliath Rear end 1250 Goliath Rear end 970 Varmint Head-On 1700 Varmint Head-On 1650 Varmint Head-On 1630 Varmint Slant 1850 Varmint Slant 1700 Varmint Slant 1650 Varmint Rear end 860 Varmint Rear end 1550 Varmint Rear end 1250 Weasel…
The report "Comparative Study of Two Computer Mouse Designs"t included the following description of the subjects used in an experiment. Twenty-four Cornell University students and staff (12 males and 12 females) volunteered to participate in the study. Three groups of 4 men and 4 women were selected by their stature to represent the 5th percentile (female 152.1 ± 0.3 cm, male 164.1 ± 0.4 cm), 50th percentile (female 162.4 ± 0.1 cm, male 174.1 ± 0.7 cm), and 95th percentile (female 171.9 ± 0.2 cm, male 185.7 ± 0.6 cm) ranges.... All subjects reported using their right hand to operate a computer mouse. This experimental design incorporated direct control and blocking. (a) Is the potential effect of the extraneous variable stature (height) addressed by blocking or direct control? O blocking direct control (b) Whether the right or left hand is used to operate the mouse was considered to be an extraneous variable. Is the potential effect of this variable addressed by blocking or direct…
